See THE HISTORY OF MEDINA COUNTY, p. 512: ''...In 1903, he [Joe Stroud, Sr.] purchased a lot in Devine and established his own business...Joe's oldest son, Sherrille, is carrying on his father's work of blacksmithing. Sherrille began helping his dad when he was only six years of age. The shop doors are decorated with brands of hundreds of ranchmen families throughout Texas and parts of the Southwest. A Texas State Historical Marker was placed to commemorate this business in 1975...

In the foreground, again left to right is Stell Briscoe (on plank), Lena Briscoe Whitfield, Ruth Whitfield (on gate post), Mary Gray Briscoe, Sarah Whitfield, Elinor Schley (on gate post), Kate Briscoe (DuBose) and Mrs. Ivey.
