A Timeline
1850s - John L Nicks - first known settler in the area
1850s - Robert Sweeten opened a grocery store
1860 - John Redus bought a ranch nine miles southwest of Devine
1872 - First known graves in Evergreen Cemetery
1872 - Elisha Whitley and Henry McCray killed by Indians in January 1872
1881 - International and Great Northern Railroad
1881 - John L. Nicks moved to railroad site 2.5 miles away out of Nicksville
1881 - Railroad renames the town after Judge Thomas Jefferson Devine
1883 - First United Methodist Church is the first noted parish in Devine.1890 - Adams Store built by Walter P Adams (Later knows as Loggins and Lilly)
1897 - The "Devine Wide Awake" newspaper set up by W.L. Dubose
1899 - St. Joseph's cemetary graves date as far back, in Memory of Thomas E Fitzgerald
1900 - Jay Adams buys Redus ranch and has since produced a tremendous amount of oil and gas
1903 - Stroud Blacksmith Shop set up by Joe Stroud Sr. 1904 - City Incorporated1904 - Adams Bank Opened by Walter P Adams
1906 - Briscoe Opera House was built and operated by his nephew, Judge Joe Briscoe, until it closed
1909 - an average of 30 train carloads of onions were being shipped daily during local harvest season
1915 - Medina Dam was built providing a major boost for the local economy
1922 - the current St. Joseph's church was erected1966 - Brown Chevrolet Comes to Devine
